DIY Ideas for Summer

Festive Placemats

Planning on hosting plenty of BBQs this summer? This DIY is cute, quick, and affordable. Here’s what you will need:

  • Fabric
  • Pen
  • Yarn

Now that you have gathered the supplies, it is time to craft!

  • Cut a 15 by 11-inch rectangle from ticking stripe fabric and a 6 by 5-inch rectangle from denim fabric.
  • Use a disappearing pen to trace a five-point star on the denim.
  • Thread a thin white piece of yarn through each of the points.
  • Sew the denim to the top left-hand corner of the ticking stripe.

Rope Trivets

This fun, DIY is perfect for keeping your countertops safe, year-round. To craft this, you will need:

  • 6” wooden plaques
  • Natural rope
  • Heat-resistant adhesive
  • Scissors
  • Acrylic paint
  • Paintbrush

Once you have everything you will need, it is time for the fun part!

  • Begin by placing a drop of glue in the middle of a wooden plaque.
  • Start coiling rope and press it until the glue until it sticks.
  • Continue to add more glue around the center coil and wrap the rope to create a larger coil until the entire plaque is covered.
  • Once the plaque is covered, glue and cut the end of the rope.
  • After the glue has dried, you can have fun painting the rope.

DIY Flowerpots

Do you want to add some life to the interior of your home? Consider adding some personality to flowerpots by gathering the following:

  • 4-inch flowerpots with trays
  • 4-inch succulent plants
  • White spray paint
  • Craft paint
  • Foam paintbrush
  • Rubber bands
  • Potting soil for succulents

Ready to start? Here is what you will need to do:

  • Spray paint the flowerpots with white spray paint and allow to dry.
  • Wrap a rubber band around a pot at an angle and spread craft paint on the lower half with a foam brush.
  • Remove the band and clean up the borders.
  • After the pots have dried, remove the succulent from the plastic pot. Fill your new flowerpot 1/3 full of potting soil and set the succulent on the top.
  • Add soil around and on top until the pot is full.
